Q:What university are you in? What are you studying?

I am currently in Wichita state university! I am currently studying to be in the college of Health professions; and I hope to work in the pediatrics department of whichever health profession I decide upon!

Q:When did you start blogging and what inspired you to start blogging?

I started my blog during the Summer of 2014 because I had always had a passion for Fashion ever since I was younger. That particular summer I had a cousin who introduced me to Fisayo Longe’s blog ( and I fell in love! I loved it so much that it inspired me to put my own work out too, so I started blogging.

Q: What inspired the name “Thebejewelledbud”

When I was still in A levels ( Oxbridge we outchea) we would spend hours waiting to be picked up after school, and me being the dreamer I was I started thinking of innovative ideas. Originally, “TheBejewelledBud” was to be the name of my business which was to offer photography, make-up, and fashion services. I never started the business but I still loved the name that my dreaming had given birth to, so I stuck with it.

Q:How do you balance academics & blogging?

When it comes to blogging I get extremely excited and I put my 100% into it because it is something I absolutely love, but I’m also a student so I have to remind myself the reason my parents sent me to America: to study. School still comes first and as an honor’s student I need to keep myself on the good note I started off with.

It’s definitely hard to find time in between classes to shoot but it’s really worth it at the end of the day. My main strategy is to shoot and post on Sundays because it’s my least busy day, that way I can give my posts 100% and take the time I need to find the perfect shots. I also plan to make the most of my summer holidays by going for styling classes and visiting the fashion hub: NYC!

Q: what is fashion?

To me fashion is minimalistic and that is why I have coined the term “Modish Minimalist” for myself. I love to dabble in the art of black and white and break the mold. It’s an art I can use to express myself. Fashion is something that makes me feel good.

Q: Ever been in love?

Haven’t we all? Haha. I definitely felt like I was in love in my final year of secondary school. It was the typical good girl, bad boy story and we all know how that ends.

Q: Have any dark secrets?

My closet! I have some great pieces hidden away for now.

Q: When was the last time you cried?

I cried in front of a bunch of people (how embarrassing) during a conference about International students. I was asked about the hardest part about being an international student and I cried as I told them how much I missed my family.

Q:If given the chance to spend a day with any body who would it be?

No doubt in my mind it would be Ed Sheeran. Why? His voice is the best and he remains so humble in the midst of his growing fame. (I just want someone to sing to me. Preferably Ed.)

Q:Where do you see yourself in 3 years?

In three years I see myself doing great things in the fashion industry! I haven’t got any other plans right now but I know that the fashion industry is calling my heart! I plan to have styled many photo shoots and to start designing again.

I also want my blog to be a hub for Nigerian youth that showcases their innovative style and fashion.

Q:What drives you?

My family and my faith. There are many days where I don’t feel like getting up and going to classes, but I go each day because I want to make my family proud of my efforts. I also say my faith because Ephesians 6:6 tells us to work like we are working unto the Lord and that motivates me a lot.

Q: Rumor has it your official blog comes out this summer?

The Nigerian fashion scene is blowing up! Gone are the days where children are confined to being just doctors, lawyers, etc. Now our youth is taking advantage of social media to showcase the amazing talent they have when it comes to styling and fashion. With my new blog I still plan to give you my style tips and posts but with the added awesomeness of people like you! I am currently reaching out to many teens and designers who are going to be featured so it’s going to be a blast! ( It could be you!)
