When life throws you lemons…

When life throws you lemons…

When life throws you lemons, throw them back at life – then work harder and buy whatever fruit you like.

It honesty feels like it was just yesterday when I celebrated Christmas and New Years. For Christmas and New Year, I travelled to America on a 48 hours journey (no exaggeration) I entered 3 planes just to get to my final destination just so I could spend some time with family. During my stay in America, I got to reflect a bit and just relax. Upon entering the new year, I felt re-energised to just live more and enjoy life.

I took this photograph, while waiting for my plane to the U.K. from Atlanta

Fast forward to February 2019, I’m still on track with my goal of living more and enjoying life but I’m struggling with balancing life. Work-life balance is a major accomplishment if you can achieve that. Just imagine having a healthy balance between getting your academic work done, hanging out with friends and getting your job at work done properly. Life would be amazing!

While I may be struggling, here are some steps I am taking to achieving work-life balance :

Don’t think about it for too long, just do it. When I was applying for the job I currently work at, I literally didn’t give too much thought to how much the application process required from me. I just applied in one sitting. The application process was quite easy, but knowing myself, I love to check things over and over again. But this time around, I made up my mind to just do it in one sitting. Some times, when we over plan and strategize, we just keep thinking about it and never get it done. Take the leap of faith; stop over thinking it and just do it.

Talk to other people: When you know you’re not the only one struggling to get things done, it helps sometimes. Also, knowing that others are getting things done kind of motivates you to want to stay on track and not get left behind (lol). For instance, applying for internships can be a tedious process but when you talk to your mates in your class who have started the process regardless of all the uni work they have to do it… it kind of helps. Sometimes, people can also offer words of encouragement.

Have the mindset to always take advantages of opportunities: This is probably the hardest thing to do but it helps! Once you’re able to agree with yourself that some opportunities come just once in a lifetime, it might motivate you to do much more. Just like how job application processes have deadlines, so do some opportunities. When life presents you with some opportunities, try to take advantage of them (but be smart enough to know which opportunity deserves your time and which doesn’t)

When life throws you lemons, throw them back at life – then work harder and buy whatever fruit you like.

The whole idea behind this quote is just to encourage you to live and not get overwhelmed by what life throws at you. Just like me, you might have a particular vision or goal for the year but things might get overwhelming along the line. Don’t just settle! Work hard and try to strike that balance and achieve that goal.
